ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ

Παρουσίαση των τροποποιημένων σχεδίων της Πλατείας Ελευθερίας

Τα σχέδια διαμόρφωσης της Πλατείας Ελευθερίας και της τάφρου μέχρι την Πλατεία Σολωμού, παρουσιάζονται από την Τετάρτη 25 Νοεμβρίου 2009 μέχρι την Τετάρτη 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2009 στο Δημαρχείο Λευκωσίας. Είναι τα νέα τροποποιημένα σχέδια που έχουν ετοιμαστεί από το γραφείο της Zaha Hadid μετά την ολοκλήρωση των αρχαιολογικών ανασκαφών και τους όρους που τέθηκαν από το Τμήμα Αρχαιοτήτων. Στόχος της παρουσίασης είναι η ενημέρωση των δημοτών μας για τους νέους σχεδιασμούς αυτού του κεντρικού σημείου της Λευκωσίας.

Η νέα όψη της πλατείας, ανανεωμένη θα ενώνει το ιστορικό κέντρο με τη σύγχρονη πόλη. Θα είναι ένας χώρος για όλους με απεριόριστες χρήσεις και δυνατότητες. Μια πλατεία για περιπάτους, ανέμελο και ασφαλές παιγνίδι για τα παιδιά, σημείο κοινωνικής συνάθροισης, χώρος ψυχαγωγίας και πολιτιστικής αναζήτησης. Αυτή θα είναι η σύγχρονη και λειτουργική Πλατεία Ελευθερίας, η οποία θα συνδυάζει το παραδοσιακό με το σύγχρονο. Εκεί η παλιά πόλη θα συναντά το παρόν και το μέλλον της.

Τι προβλέπουν τα σχέδια και ποιες πρόνοιες έχουν ενσωματωθεί σ’ αυτά:

• Η απόσταση της πλατείας από το τείχος αυξήθηκε στα πέντε μέτρα και θα έχει ύψος τέσσερα μέτρα από το έδαφος της τάφρου ούτως ώστε να αναδειχτεί ο προμαχώνας.
• Στο επίπεδο της τάφρου, δηλαδή κάτω από την πλατεία, θα κατασκευαστούν καφεστιατόρια, περίπτερα, παιδότοπος, μικρό θέατρο, γραφείο πληροφοριών και αποχωρητήρια (αρκετά από αυτά περιλαμβάνονταν στα αρχικά σχέδια).
• Αυξάνεται ο αριθμός των δέντρων στην τάφρο, ενώ το πράσινο επεκτείνεται μέχρι ενός σημείου και στο επίπεδο της πλατείας. Θα φυτευτούν συνολικά 120 δέντρα και θα δημιουργηθούν τεχνητές λίμνες σε διάφορα σημεία.
• Θα κατασκευαστούν άνετες σκάλες από τις οδούς Λήδρας και Ονασαγόρου οι οποίες θα οδηγούν στο κάτω μέρος της πλατείας. Επίσης θα δημιουργηθεί μεγάλη ράμπα και θα λειτουργήσουν ανελκυστήρες για διευκόλυνση των ατόμων με σωματικές αναπηρίες.
• Στη λεωφόρο Ομήρου θα κατασκευαστεί διώροφος υπόγειος χώρος στάθμευσης περίπου 150 θέσεων.

Με την ολοκλήρωση των σχεδίων αναμένεται να προκηρυχθούν προσφορές το καλοκαίρι του 2010 στοχεύοντας η πλατεία να είναι έτοιμη μέχρι τα μέσα του 2012.

Το κόστος της ανάπλασης της πλατείας θα καλυφθεί κατά 50% από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, 45% από την Κυπριακή Κυβέρνηση και το υπόλοιπο 5% από το Δήμο Λευκωσίας.

Takh-el-Kale area - Problems

For the neighbors of Takh-el-Kale and close areas (Thiseos, Agios Ioannis, Irakleous...)

As you know, various initiatives have been taken from the residents of our area, with the objective to forward the problems that we face to the Municipality for their resolution. It would help a lot if you marked in the below lines any problems you have. Please fill them before Monday 01/06/09, and hour 18.00 p.m. - 19.30 p.m., when some neighbors will collect them. In case you are absent, leave them in your postal box or in some other visible point in your house for their collection.

Percentage of citizens that uses cars daily

The percentage of Cypriote  that uses every day his car amounts 87,6%, where the corresponding medium percentage of EE is recorded 51,4%.

Bravo, Mayor, you really know....

Some conclusions of the reunion, don't want to go very deep into them:

+ First, no more than 60-70 persons were there. The assistants complained about the lack of communication from the municipality when informing about the meeting. Some people knew from others, not directly. Last year in Melina Mercury number was double.

+ One of the main problems commented was the traffic problems, in all the city.

+ Most of the problems has to do with the police. There is never a representation of them in these meetings.

+ The way of this reunions are carried along is quite unproductive, meaning that the system of just stand on the stage and listen to the complains of the neighbors really doesn't work. From last year no big changes has been seen in the city.

+ In general, there is a lack of communication of the municipality towards the citizens: there is no knowledge of roads closed, works, etc.

- From our group, we keep on focusing on two main points: one is the need of regular meeting between representatives of the municipality and the neighbors; and the second is the lack of a general plan or idea about the city instead of small and very local interventions.

- To emphasize, the traffic subject: we've been fighting for a solution to Thiseos street during the last 2 years. No one has been proposed, not even for a future. But the moment we realized about how the people on power think, is when the Mayor answer like this about our complaining: "... but if you knew how much traffic your road has, why did you go to live there...?" - This is not the response you expect to here from the mayor of a European historic city/monument -

We were there. Finally, after a voting of aprox. 12 against 8 of the members of the municipal council, the application for the opening of the steak house was rejected!

We hope this is the beginning, because in this fight, there will never be an end.
